Pet Dental Care in Lake Oswego, OR
Compass Veterinary Clinic Dental Services
Veterinary dental care is an important piece of your dog or cat’s preventive health care. For most pets, just like for us, even daily brushing of their teeth is not enough to maintain proper dental hygiene. If a pet’s mouth is left untreated, it can lead to dental and systemic diseases. It is estimated that more than 80 percent of dogs and 70 percent of cats develop tooth and gum disease by the age of three years old. If the bacteria from oral disease enters the bloodstream, they can greatly damage your pet’s kidneys, heart or liver.
Our veterinarians perform dental cleaning under inhalant anesthesia. During the procedure, we use a special endotracheal tube with an inflatable cuff to keep plaque, calculus, and other debris from entering your pet’s lungs. We don’t want your pet becoming ill from the very thing we’re trying to prevent.
Under anesthesia, our trained dental technicians are able to thoroughly clean above and below the gum line. Without anesthesia, we could not safely clean below the gum line nor could we prevent your pet from inhaling or swallowing the debris being cleaned off their teeth.
ROUTINE DENTAL
Compass Veterinary Clinic recommends that every pet have dental prophylaxis once a year. A routine dental includes:
- Oral Exam Under Anesthesia
- Supra and Sub-Gingival Scaling
- Polishing
- Fluoride Application
- IV Catheterization
- Airway Protection
- Electronic Patient Monitoring
- X-Rays of Every Tooth
Compass utilizes the Dentalaire Prestige, a high-powered dental unit similar to what you might see in your dentist’s office. This machine allows Compass dental techs to thoroughly clean your pet’s teeth both above and below the gum line. The Dentalaire Prestige is fast, allowing us to significantly reduce your pet’s time under anesthesia.
FEAR FREE PET DENTAL CARE
There’s a reason many people fear the dentist! Pet dental exams and procedures, when done without care for an animal’s anxious reactions, can be quite stressful. Fear Free dental care ensures that your little companion gets what they need to stay healthy without developing anxiety about visits to the vet.
